FAQ

Slow travel, warm springs, good rest.

Q01

Do your trips work for travellers who use a walking stick or wheelchair?

Yes, and this is something we plan for specifically. Before recommending any property, we check corridor widths, step heights, bath access, and whether a Western-style bed is available. We ask about your mobility needs at the start of the planning process, not as an afterthought.

Q02

Can we pay in instalments rather than all at once?

We ask for a 30% deposit to confirm your booking, with the balance due six weeks before departure. For custom private journeys over ¥400,000, we can discuss a three-payment schedule. We accept bank transfer and credit card.

Q03

What happens if one of us becomes unwell during the trip?

Keiko is reachable by phone throughout your journey. We keep a list of English-friendly clinics near every property we use, and we can help arrange a doctor's visit or a change of plans if needed. Travel insurance that covers medical costs in Japan is required for all bookings.

Q04

How far in advance do we need to book?

For the autumn foliage tour, we recommend booking by late August. The best ryokan in Nikko and Karuizawa fill up quickly in October. For other journeys, six to eight weeks is usually enough, though popular onsen towns like Kinosaki can be tight on weekends.

Q05

Are meals included, and can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Most ryokan meals are included in our packages. We discuss dietary needs. Low sodium, no shellfish, vegetarian. Before booking and confirm with the ryokan in writing. Japanese kaiseki menus are flexible when the request is made in advance.

Q06

Is it possible to travel alone, or do your trips require a companion?

Solo travellers are very welcome. Several of our regular clients travel alone. We plan the itinerary with solo comfort in mind. Ryokan that are used to single guests, dining arrangements that do not feel awkward, and check-in times that give you time to settle before dinner.
